NA Speaker Urges Nationwide Unity as Flood Survivors Struggle to Rebuild

by Sara Ahmed

Islamabad: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has called on Pakistanis from all walks of life to rally behind flood-stricken communities, describing the rehabilitation of displaced families as a “shared national duty.”

In a statement issued Monday, Sadiq urged citizens, welfare organisations, and the private sector to step up relief efforts, stressing that no single entity could address the scale of devastation alone. “No segment of society can remain indifferent at this critical hour,” he said.

The Speaker highlighted that residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and several other hard-hit regions urgently need food, shelter, and medical support. He appealed to philanthropists and businesses to contribute generously to reconstruction efforts, particularly the rebuilding of homes and restoration of essential infrastructure.

Youth Volunteers Touted as Key to Relief Operations

Sadiq placed particular emphasis on the role of young Pakistanis, encouraging them to volunteer their time and energy in distributing aid and assisting communities in rebuilding their lives. “Young volunteers can play a decisive role in easing the suffering of families devastated by these floods,” he said.

His remarks come as Pakistan grapples with the aftermath of widespread flooding that has displaced thousands and caused extensive damage to homes and livelihoods. Officials and aid agencies have warned that slow recovery efforts could leave many families vulnerable as they wait for assistance.

Call for National Solidarity

The Speaker urged citizens to stand in solidarity with those affected, framing disaster relief as not only a humanitarian obligation but also a test of national unity. “This is a time for empathy and sacrifice,” he said. “We must ensure that every affected family knows they are not alone in their struggle.”

His appeal adds to growing calls for private sector engagement in disaster response, as the government faces mounting pressure to accelerate relief and rehabilitation measures.
