Chery’s Omoda E5 EV Hits Pakistani Market, Rivals Heating Up in the Electric SUV Race

by Sara Ahmed

As Pakistan’s electric vehicle landscape continues to gain momentum, Chery has rolled out its latest entrant — the Omoda E5 — marking another stride in the country’s transition toward greener mobility. Hot on the heels of the Jaecoo J7’s debut, the Omoda E5 joins the race with a strong mix of premium features, bold styling, and competitive range.

This launch comes under Chery’s collaboration with NextGen Auto — a Nishat Group subsidiary already known for assembling Hyundai vehicles locally — signaling serious intent from the automaker to carve out a solid foothold in Pakistan’s growing EV segment.

Stylish & Smart: Omoda E5’s Exterior Design

Visually, the Omoda E5 brings a futuristic flair with sharply sculpted lines and a tech-forward front fascia. LED lighting dominates its exterior setup — from DRLs and fog lamps with cornering functions to animated sequential rear turn signals. An aerodynamic roofline is complemented by 18-inch alloy wheels, dual spoilers, roof rails, and a shark-fin antenna. Rain-sensing wipers, a power tailgate, and puddle lamps add everyday convenience.

Inside the Cabin: Premium Comfort Meets Digital Tech

Step inside, and the E5 feels more like a digital lounge than a traditional SUV. A panoramic dual 12.3-inch screen setup spans the dashboard — one for the driver’s instrument cluster, the other for infotainment. Features like wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 50W wireless charging, and intelligent voice control (“Hello Omoda”) are all included.

Comfort hasn’t been sidelined either. The front seats are ventilated and power-adjustable, with synthetic leather upholstery and multicolor ambient lighting elevating the interior. Rear-seat passengers get air vents, USB charging ports, and a fold-down armrest.

Performance & Range: What’s Under the Hood (or Floor)?

The Omoda E5 is powered by a 150kW permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering 204hp and 340Nm of torque — good enough to offer lively performance in city or highway settings. It’s front-wheel-drive and offers three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport.

Its 61kWh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery offers an estimated driving range of 430 km under the WLTP standard and up to 505 km under NEDC conditions — a strong showing for a compact electric SUV in this price bracket. Charging is facilitated through a port located in the front grille.

Safety Package: High on Peace of Mind

Chery hasn’t cut corners on safety. The E5 packs a comprehensive suite including six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, a 360° camera system, and both front and rear parking sensors. Advanced child safety systems, including ISOFIX and multiple tether anchors, also make it family-friendly.

Smart features like passive entry/start, walk-away auto-locking, and remote window control reflect a thoughtful approach to driver convenience and security.

Pricing & Availability in Pakistan

Priced at PKR 8,999,000 (ex-showroom), the Omoda E5 isn’t aiming for budget buyers — but it offers a lot for the price tag. Bookings are now open with a hefty advance payment of PKR 1,700,000. Deliveries are expected to begin in approximately 2.5 months.

The Takeaway

With the Omoda E5, Chery has made it clear it’s not here to play safe — it’s here to compete. Packed with cutting-edge features, a respectable range, and a design that turns heads, it stands out as one of the most tech-savvy EVs to launch in Pakistan to date.

As more electric SUVs like the Jaecoo J7 and others enter the market, buyers now have real choices — and for the first time, real reasons to consider going electric.
