Pakistan, Tajikistan Wrap Up Week-Long Counterterrorism Drills

by Sara Ahmed

Pakistan and Tajikistan have completed their second joint counterterrorism exercise, “Dosti-II,” held from August 4 to 9 at the Fakhrobod Base in Tajikistan.

The training brought together two combat teams from the Pakistan Army’s Light Commando Battalion and four teams from Tajikistan’s Special Forces. Over the course of the week, the troops worked through a series of joint drills designed to improve coordination in counterterrorism scenarios, share operational techniques, and strengthen tactical readiness.

The closing ceremony on August 9 was attended by Pakistan’s Defence Attaché in Tajikistan, Colonel Muhammad Muazzam Zafar, along with senior Tajik military officials. Both sides praised the professionalism of the participating units, noting the precision and discipline displayed during the exercises.

While the drills focused on refining procedures for high-risk operations, they also served a broader diplomatic purpose — reinforcing a long-standing security partnership between the two countries. Military cooperation between Pakistan and Tajikistan has been steadily expanding in recent years, with counterterrorism seen as a shared priority due to regional security challenges in Central and South Asia.
