Rising Chenab Waters Force Closure of Key Multan Bridge

by Sara Ahmed

Traffic across Head Muhammad Wala Bridge has been halted after water levels in the River Chenab surged to a dangerous high, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

Police said the decision was taken as a safety precaution amid worsening flood conditions, with officials redirecting all vehicles toward the Chenab Bridge as an alternative route.

Security personnel and disaster management teams have been stationed at the site to control traffic and assist travelers. The administration has also prepared a breaching point near the bridge to relieve pressure from the swollen river and protect surrounding areas from severe flooding.

The closure underscores mounting concerns over the Chenab’s rapidly rising waters, which threaten nearby settlements and infrastructure. Authorities are urging residents to stay alert and follow safety advisories.
