How to Apply for CM Punjab Laptop Scheme Online
The CM Punjab Laptop Scheme distributes free laptops to high-achieving Punjab students. Here is the full online application process from start to finish.
The CM Punjab Laptop Scheme is a flagship initiative of the Maryam Nawaz Sharif provincial government, distributing free laptops to high-achieving students at universities and colleges across Punjab. The scheme has been running in some form since the early Shahbaz Sharif administration but was relaunched and significantly expanded in 2024 under the new provincial leadership. Applications are now handled entirely online through the dedicated provincial portal.
Who can apply for the CM Punjab Laptop Scheme
The scheme is open to students who meet all of the following:
- Enrolled in an HEC-recognised university, degree-awarding institute or affiliated college located in Punjab.
- Currently studying in the second year onwards of an undergraduate programme, or any year of a postgraduate programme.
- Holds a domicile certificate from any district of Punjab.
- Has obtained at least 60% marks in the most recent academic term (typically the previous year's results).
- Has not previously received a laptop under any government scheme.
Final-year students nearing graduation are still eligible provided their thesis or final submission has not yet been completed. Students enrolled in private universities are eligible as long as the institution is on the official HEC recognition list — which most well-known private universities are.
What you need before starting the application
Gather all required documents before opening the application portal. Half-finished applications often time out, and you cannot submit incomplete forms.
- CNIC or B-Form — original scan, both sides, in clear PDF format under 2 MB.
- Domicile certificate — issued by your district commissioner's office, valid and not expired.
- Latest academic transcript — official copy from your university, showing the GPA or percentage from the most recent completed term.
- Enrollment certificate — current proof from your university confirming you are an active enrolled student, dated within the past three months.
- Recent passport-sized photograph — digital scan, under 1 MB, plain background, taken within the past six months.
- Active mobile number registered in your name — the portal sends OTP verification codes, so the SIM must be in your CNIC.
- Working email address that you check regularly — all status updates come via email.
Step-by-step application process
- Visit the official portal
Go to pmyp.gov.pk or the dedicated CM Punjab Laptop Scheme page linked from punjab.gov.pk. Do not use any third-party site claiming to handle laptop applications — these are scams. Bookmark the official URL before starting.
- Register a new account
Click 'New Applicant Registration' and enter your CNIC number and active mobile number. The system sends an OTP to the SIM registered in your name. Enter the OTP within five minutes to verify your identity and create the account.
- Fill the academic and personal details form
Enter your full name (exactly as it appears on the CNIC), your date of birth, your father's name and CNIC, your permanent and current addresses, your university name (from the HEC drop-down list) and your current programme. The form does not allow free-text entries for institution names — you must select from the official HEC list.
- Upload all required documents
Use the upload buttons to attach each scanned document. The portal checks file size and format — PDFs must be under 2 MB, JPEGs under 1 MB. If a file is too large, compress it first using any free PDF compressor before re-uploading.
- Review, submit and save the tracking number
Review every field carefully — once submitted, you cannot edit. Click submit and immediately note the tracking number that appears on the confirmation screen. Take a screenshot. Email the tracking number to yourself as a backup. You will need it to check your application status later.
What happens after you submit
The application moves through three review stages before any laptop is distributed. First, the portal's automated system checks your basic eligibility — domicile, current enrollment, marks threshold. This usually completes within 48 hours of submission. Second, your university's focal person verifies the documents you uploaded against their internal records — this takes one to three weeks. Third, the central scheme committee reviews verified applications and generates the final merit list — typically two to three months after the application window closes.
You will receive SMS and email notifications at each stage. If your tracking dashboard shows 'Document Mismatch' or 'University Verification Pending' for more than four weeks, contact your university's HEC focal person directly to expedite the verification step. The central scheme committee will not review unverified applications, no matter how strong your academic record.
Laptop scheme — common applicant queries
One more thing about the laptop scheme
The CM Punjab Laptop Scheme is genuinely competitive — in recent cycles, more than 400,000 applications were received for around 100,000 available laptops. Meeting the basic eligibility criteria is necessary but far from sufficient. To maximise your chances, ensure your most recent academic results are as strong as possible before applying, and submit early in the application window so any document verification issues can be resolved before the deadline.
If you are awarded a laptop, you will receive an SMS with instructions for collection from a designated venue, usually a large hall at your university or a central distribution point in your district. Collection events typically happen two to four months after the merit list is published. Bring your original CNIC and the printed allocation letter to claim the laptop — no exceptions are made for missing identification.
Application portal addresses, eligibility cutoffs and distribution timelines change every year. Always verify the current rules at pmyp.gov.pk before relying on any specific detail mentioned in this guide.
